The Philosophy behind It Is What It Is

Don't misunderstand.  This phrase can be manipulated in many different meanings so for the sake of this blog I want to share what it means to me.  Feel free to tell me yours.

I think this phrase is just saying that you can't get crazy over things you have no control of.

It isn't a phrase to support complacency by no means.
I'm a staunch believer in change and I say we revolt against our government and unjust laws and revolt against the idea that we should just settle for mediocrity.  NO!!  POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!  :0)

I believe that we must recognize those moments that will come along in life and understand that the only thing we can do is pray and let God do the rest in his timing and will.

We don't have to have the control all the time.  We shouldn't even try.  Somethings get better results when you have the intimate conversation with our creator that we call praying and ask, what will you have me do.  If his answer comes to you in a word...accept, then it is what it is.

Stops along the way..

The title of my Blog came from my future mother-in-law's sister.  There are some things you just can't control in life and so, It Is What It is.

Looking back at my own journey I see all the mishaps of trying to control things I couldn't.  Refusing to believe this however, I proceeded in the practice of hitting my head against that perverbial brick wall so many of us are familiar with.
After spending years of my life at that wall, with bruised forehead and withered will I came to the understanding that there are just some things in life that happen.  Good, bad, tragic, heartwrentching, heartwarming, lovely and the adjectives can go on, whatever the case, it's more important how we react and behave and choose to believe that make these "stops" in the valley count.

My Future mother-in-law is a great example to follow.  She is a beautiful woman at her glorious age.  Stoic, loving, soft spoken and hilarious, just thinking about her warms my heart.  How many of you can say that about your future mother-in-laws?  (Yes, I am bragging)
She has been handed something that by others may be viewed as cruel and heart breaking.  Most of us would run from such a path. A path that will bring clouds of pain and showers of agony.
She is a true believer of It Is What It is, she deals with whatever the cards are and plays them with grace, dignity and compassion.
I watch her carefully while she cooks and serves her culinary delights to us, her children.  Then I observe her as she watches her most beloved children Each one, taking in their faces and watching thier expressions. Measuring with each smile each facial expression, calculating the way moms do if they are well, happy and just plain ok.
She attends to her husband (who is a story for another day, he too has captured my heart in a special way) with humor and teasing that can only come from years of having loved one another.

These are the unsung heroes that we must watch and take care of the most.  Like national treasures we must make sure that they too receive the care and love and help that they have so generously given throughout their lives.  That's one of the rewards for living by the philosophy of "It Is What It is".
(The others will be mentioned in future blogs)

It means that when life has slammed you with stuff, when you find yourself in the valley, you don't go to the WALL and start banging away.  You gracefully take up the plow and gently coax that ox to plow and seed the field called YOU the only field you really do have control of and then watch it grow.  Thanking God all the way for the strength he gives us to move through this valley.
